Rika’s series of tigers combine various patterns from nature to help describe the contours and movement of these beautiful creatures.

Her artwork includes influences from her time learning print making in Japan and her natural surroundings in New Zealand.

About The Artist

Rika is a Japanese artist and has lived in New Zealand for the past four years.

She graduated from Osaka Art University majoring in printmaking. The time she spent at University experimenting with different copper-plate printing techniques has greatly influenced her art today.

The patterns and fine lines of Rika’s works reflect the intricate process of etching. This unique connection gives her works a special feel and presence that enables the viewer to get entranced and lost in the art. 

​The numerous unique and beautiful animals New Zealand has to offer also has a big influence on her art as well as various children’s book illustrators and traditional Japanese art.

Rika has had a number of art exhibitions in New Zealand and she won the Signature Promotions Art Award at the New Zealand Art Show in 2018.
