Michel Tuffery’s Matariki series reflect intricate tapa cloth and tatau markings which unify Polynesian oral history and mythologies.
Matariki (Pleiades) is a time of coming together to reflect on the past with celebrated stories and the exchange of knowledge.
Ancient Māori had flight embedded in their traditions, they saw kites as connectors between the heavens and earth while observing the rising of the Matariki star cluster and the incoming Māori New Year.
