Passing by in the train or by car, the small anchorage of boats and yachts, that nestle peacefully against the backdrop of hills in the shelter of Paremata-Porirua inlet, inspire Libby and led to the creation of this piece.
About the Artist
Libby is a keen watercolour artist and photographer. She has exhibited her photographic work locally and internationally in Ireland, France and China. The photograph of her painting "Yachting on Wellington Harbour" is published in David Colquhoun's, Alexander Turnbull Library 2011, "Wellingtonians".
Libby was a recipient of the Gordon Harris “Innovation in Watercolour” Award at the 2015 Watercolour New Zealand “Splash” exhibition. She was the winner of Best Watercolour Landscape at the Kapiti Art Show 2017 and received at Merit award as well.
She was also accepted as a solo panel artist at the 2018 NZ Art Show in Wellington.
Libby’s passion for the environment and New Zealand outdoors created another interest for her – she loves en plein air landscape and seascape painting, where she can share her love of the outdoors through her watercolour work.
For Libby watercolour stimulates the imagination. Watercolour painting challenges the artist by the way water and paint flow on the paper in unexpected ways.
“I paint what I feel and enjoy looking at and being part of this medium in the most satisfying way I can”.
