Rapoi means “to cuddle a baby”. (rapoi (verb) (-tia) to carry in the arms, dandle, cuddle (a baby).Ka whānau te tamaiti, ka rapoitia ki runga tonu i ngā ringa, ka hikihiki tonu (W 1971:326). / When the child is born it is cradled in the arms and carried about in the arms.)
New Zealand, and the stunning taonga of this land is also in the children - they are our treasure, and they are our future just as much as the beautiful mountains, skies and seas.
About The Artist
Juliet's paintings include strong horizon lines, highly textured landscapes and lots of gold-leaf.
She celebrates the beauty and moods of New Zealand's coastlines and landscapes with her finely layered and beautifully blended colours. Juliet has a deep respect and love for the vast topography and horizons of New Zealand, including the flora and fauna.
Juliet is the Life Flight Trust (the Rescue Helicopter) 2018/19 Artist in Residence. She recently completed two successful years as the resident guest artist with Air New Zealand, Wellington Koru Lounges. Her painting A Tapa Full o' Manu is featured in the Museum Art Hotel Walk.
She was the 2018 guest artist and speaker, at the annual all day charity Champions Lunch for 600, held at Te Papa. She was also a selected New Zealand artist for the 2018 Auckland Big Hoot Art Trail, for Child Cancer Foundation.
