About the Artist
As soon as Catherine stepped off the plane in New Zealand she felt the power and energy of the land itself. It was still alive and fresh. Once she was in the native bush she saw the most primordial, wild collection of plants that she'd ever seen. It was a Dr Suess designed forest. She was enchanted
When she studied Fine Art at the University of California in Berkeley during the seventies, her focus was on sculpture and environmental installation work.
The need to support herself led her to an interesting career in computers and art that consumed her for years.
Now Catherine is painting that amazing New Zealand bush that she first fell in love with. She’s currently obsessed with the Supplejack plant; a wild and crazy vine that twists, swirls, grabs, entwines, embraces, clutches, and flings itself around other plants. The other plants come and go but the Supplejack stays like a fabulous Abstract Expressionist painting redefining the space and light.
